Commercial businesses are being increasingly required to reduce their net emissions of greenhouse gases (principally carbon dioxide CO2). Appropriately designed forestry projects can offset emissions by creating a permanent carbon sink.
As trees grow, they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. The carbon remains stored in the tree biomass (stems, roots and canopy) unless liberated through the action of tree harvesting and biomass decomposition.
Carbon sequestration using forest plantations is a recognized offset activity under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Australian Federal Government is a signatory to the Kyoto Protocol and is in the process of developing a national Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, which includes provision for recognising carbon sequestration from forestry projects.
Rewards provide innovative carbon sequestration solutions through a Carbon Abatement Project tailored to the specific needs of clients. Services include:
In addition to the Carbon Abatement Project, these services can also be provided on an individual basis.
